I set a beautiful table. Even when it’s just our family, the bottom of the plate lines up with the bottom of the flatware. All set one inch from the edge of the table. (Can you tell I’ve done a lot of food service?) I lived in Japan for three years, and studied kaiseki ryori (classical Japanese cooking); I was taught that the visual element is a critical element in the enjoyment of a meal.
