Just this week, I’ve seen this question asked three times on Facebook pages, and had a friend and fellow writer ask me directly.
I HAVE RUMINATED.
Approach people straightforwardly, offering to send a free PDF. If they request it, graciously make that a hard copy. Do not send that hard copy internationally, however. It will cost over $100.
Tuck a note into the hard copy, or write in the email that comes with the PDF a list of the links to your book on Amazon, Goodreads, Barnes & Noble, and all those electron retailers that I cannot keep track of. Or choose one or two retailers and ask them to review the book there, specially .
Make sure to stress that when they do post their thoughts, they need to clarify in their review that they received a copy of the PDF/book in exchange for a review.
Contact five to ten people a day and be patient. Book reviews take a long time to build.
Alle, what do you think about coaching/telling people what to write? I think human brains are lazy! What if there were some sentence starters or talking points that "a lot of previous readers have commented on x, y, z! Love to hear your take on these..."? (I am not up to promoting my book. Still need to shop and sell proposal!)
Thank you. I am going to try to put this into place soon, if not for my next publication then for my current ones.
